José Froilán González (born October 5, 1922 in Arrecifes) is an Argentine former racing driver, particularly notable for scoring Ferrari's first win in a Formula One World Championship race at the 1951 British Grand Prix. He made his Formula One debut for Scuderia Achille Varzi in the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix. His last Grand Prix was the 1960 Argentine Grand Prix.
González competed in 26 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix over nine seasons - 1950-1957 and 1960) and numerous non-Championship events. In the 26 World Championship races, González scored two victories (the 1951 British Grand Prix and the 1954 British Grand Prix), seven second place finishes, six third place finishes, three pole positions and six fastest laps. González scored 72.14 points and led 14 times in nine Grands Prix, for 270 laps, making a career lead of 1363.85 kilometers or approximately 847.457 miles. He won the 1951 Coppa Acerbo, in 1954 the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Maurice Trintignant, and the Portuguese Grand Prix for Ferrari.
This collection comprises eight specifically scratch built models by Tony Smith who personalised each and every one of his models, ensuring that each was unique and naturally far removed from the original 1:43rd scale kits in quality and detail. Tony Smith builds only to specific request and imbues each of his models with an attention to detail that distinguishes his work from other modelers. He has built or contributed to some of the best known model collections as well as developing a private collection all of his own. Tony is now selling a section of his collection, one part being the Gonzales models - There are also another 15 sections due to be sold over the coming months, covering a large number of drivers and car marques - so keep an eye out!
Each model is mounted on a black perspex base and comes with information plaque and you also get to keep the photograph of Sen. Gonzales. The models include the 1954 Le Mans Ferrari 375 and the 1954 Silverstone Winning Ferrari 375, the 1954 British Grand Prix winning Ferrari 625, the 1950 blue and yellow liveried Maserati 4CLT, the 1955 Argentine GP Ferrari 625A, the 1954 French GP Ferrari 553 Squalo, the 1951 Silverstone Grand Prix winning Ferrari 375 and the 1955 No.12 Ferrari 625A.
